How we work

Editorial Standards

Our approach to research, practical advice, product recommendations and corrections.

WhateverTings aims to publish useful, accurate and readable articles for people interested in style, sound, technology and digital life. These standards explain how we research, prepare and maintain that material.

Useful before promotional

Every article should have a clear reader purpose. It should answer a question, explain a process or help someone compare choices. Product links are optional additions, not the reason an article exists. We do not promise that every article will contain a recommendation.

Research and evidence

For technical, safety, consumer-rights or other changeable claims, we aim to prefer primary sources such as manufacturer documentation, official standards bodies, regulators and public authorities. We distinguish official requirements from personal opinion and from claims made by retailers. When information is likely to change, readers should check the linked source and the current product documentation.

Product information and recommendations

Our product guides and comparisons are research-based. We use available specifications, manufacturer documentation, official guidance and relevant independent sources, and explain the criteria behind a comparison where appropriate. We do not imply that WhateverTings has personally owned, used or hands-on tested a product, and we do not present another publisher’s testing or conclusions as our own.

Product selection and commercial relationships

Recommendations should explain who a product may suit, who may want to look elsewhere, what specifications matter and what limitations are known. Affiliate commission does not guarantee inclusion or a positive conclusion. Any affiliate, sponsored or gifted relationship will be identified close to the affected content. See the Affiliate Disclosure.

Corrections and updates

If a material error is reported, we will review it against reliable evidence. We may correct factual errors, clarify wording, update obsolete specifications or remove a recommendation that is no longer suitable. We aim to make meaningful changes visible where the context requires it, rather than silently preserving a misleading impression.

Images and other creative material

Images should be relevant to the subject and used with a suitable licence or permission. A representative editorial photograph is not evidence that the exact product shown has been tested or endorsed. Product images added in future should be supplied or authorised by the relevant retailer, brand, manufacturer or rights holder and used according to their terms.
