Affiliate disclosure.

How links, commissions and product recommendations work on WhateverTings.

WhateverTings may include links to retailers, products or services that participate in affiliate programmes. These are special tracking links. If you click one and make a qualifying purchase or complete another qualifying action, the retailer or affiliate network may pay WhateverTings a commission.

Our placement rule: where an affiliate link appears, the commercial relationship will be labelled clearly beside that product, recommendation or link. This page provides additional detail; it does not replace a disclosure at the point where the recommendation appears.

Does it cost the reader more?

An affiliate commission should not add a separate charge to the reader. The retailer controls the checkout, product price, stock, delivery, returns and customer service. Prices and availability can change, so check the retailer's page before ordering.

How recommendations are selected

Commission is not a guarantee of inclusion, a positive review or a higher position in a comparison. We aim to consider the reader's needs, the product's intended use, available specifications, compatibility, support and warranty information, price and value, and the quality of evidence available. We may decide not to recommend a product even when an affiliate programme is available.

How product information is presented

Articles may draw on manufacturer documentation, official standards, independent reporting, published reviews and consumer guidance. We aim to explain the basis of a comparison and identify relevant limitations. Our product guides are research-based. We do not imply that WhateverTings has personally used or tested a product, or present another publisher’s review findings as our own.

Third-party retailers and affiliate networks

When you follow an external link, you leave WhateverTings. The retailer or service provider is responsible for its website, checkout, delivery, returns, warranties and customer service. Affiliate networks may use cookies or other technologies to attribute a purchase or qualifying action; their own privacy notices and the retailer's terms then apply.

Editorial independence

Commercial relationships should not determine our conclusions. If a product has limitations, compatibility concerns or missing information that matter to the reader, we should say so. A commission does not turn an unsuitable product into a recommendation, and the availability of an affiliate link does not prove that a product is the best choice.

Advertising and clear identification

We intend to make the commercial nature of recommendations obvious at the point of decision. Product cards will use wording such as “Affiliate link” or “We may earn a commission” near the image, description and outbound link. Sponsored content, gifted products or paid partnerships will be identified separately when applicable.

Official guidance

The European Commission's Influencer Legal Hub explains consumer-protection principles relevant to commercial creator content, including affiliate marketing and disclosure. We use it as a starting point for clear presentation, alongside the rules that apply to the markets and programmes we work with.
